There’s nothing like putting the last of the frosty days behind you as you enjoy the first signs of spring. From blooming flowers to longer days and warmer nights, there are a lot of reasons to enjoy spring, particularly in New England. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite spring activities, from Boston and beyond, for you to enjoy.
Stop and smell the flowers
All around Greater Boston, flowers are in bloom. That means it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. There are a number of parks in the area that would be a great spot to put down a blanket and have a picnic, read a book, or chat with friends. Boston’s backyard, The Boston Common, is already lined with people enjoying afternoons in the sun. We recommend its neighboring park, The Public Garden, where you can admire more than 80 species of flowers and plants.
Climb a mountain, or two
Did you know that Boston is only an hour or two away from some of the most beautiful hiking destinations? Now that temperatures are rising and the snow is melting off the mountain tops, it’s a great time to head up to New Hampshire or Vermont to get some exercise and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly hike, such as Pack Monadnock in Peterborough, NH, or looking to take on any of the challenging 4,000 footers in the White Mountains, there’s something for people at every skill level.
Savor some local ice cream
As soon as the first signs of spring arise, New Englanders will be rushing to get their first scoop of ice cream. Due to the region’s abundance of dairy farms, there’s a lot of great local ice cream shops. If you’re in the city, head to Sullivan’s on Castle Island for some snacks and a walk along the beach on a nice day. On the North Shore, check out White Farms Homemade Ice Cream for unique flavors and even some mini golf. If you’re heading to Vermont, the Ben and Jerry’s factory is a can’t-miss experience. This national brand has local roots! No matter where you are in New England, a quick Google search is likely to turn up some incredible ice cream shops nearby.
Enjoy a meal outside
Since April 1, Massachusetts has fully reopened outdoor dining. Local restaurants have tremendously expanded their patio seating in the last year, so there are plenty of options to choose from. There’s nothing like enjoying a refreshing drink or delicious meal while soaking up some sun rays. If you’re looking for an enjoyable outdoor experience, check out this list of some of the area’s best options. Whether you’re looking for a bustling roof top in Seaport or a quaint experience at the Lookout Farm Greenhouse, there’s an option for you and your party anywhere in Greater Boston.
